September 2023

September 12

Greetings, Nomidachi!

We hope you're doing well with the seasonal transition and back to school/work grind. Here at Saké Nomi, we're doing our best not to slow down while on the quest for more interesting and delicious sake we can introduce to you.

We'd like to take a few minutes to keep you apprised of some recent and impending developments, so here we go!

Saké Safari: Back to Japan
Perhaps you've stopped by the shop recently to chat and have already heard, but we are excited to announce that we are going to Japan September 21 (do you remember?) thru October 3 to mix some business with pleasure while meeting up with family and visiting some saké breweries.

It will be the first time for us to go back to Japan as a family in over 20 years, so we are super excited to catch up face-to-face with family and friends we haven't seen in too long.

But fear not. Though we will be closed for about 8 business days, it is not our intention to leave you in the lurch or impose some sort of involuntary sake rationing on you, Dear Nomidachi. At the same time, we need to knock out as much commerce as possible before our sojourn, so . . . WE'RE HAVING A SALE!

Saké Safari Sale
Beginning tomorrow, September 14- September 20, based on some conservative estimates of what kind of volume we think it will take most dedicated sake drinkers to get through this brief (challenging?) period of our absence, some special "volume" pricing will be as follows:

10% "case" discount on 4 bottle purchases (normal case volume is 6 bottles)

16% "Anniversary" discount on 6 bottle purchases, to acknowledge, celebrate, and express our appreciation of your support during our first 16 years of business.

This pricing applies to all sake in the shop, and if there are specific sake you're interested in that we may not currently have on the shelves, please let us know by this Friday, September 15, and we'll do our best to have it here available for pick up on Tuesday, September 19.

At any rate, thank you for your kind understanding and support!

New Fridge
Did you hear about the new equipment addition? We've got a new "double wide" fridge, which means our ability to stock year-round and seasonal release namazake has basically tripled. In fact, right now we have upwards of 20 different varieties of namazake available for purchase by the bottle or by the glass.

We're working on filling the new unit, but don't be shy about helping us liquidate what's on hand -- we'll just restock! Big Kanpai to that!

Speaking of some of the amazing namas we're featuring right now, get a load of these:

Kagatobi Ai Junmai Daiginjo Shiboritate Nama Genshu (Ishikawa)
According to the brewery, this sake was “brewed carefully only with the contract farming Yamadanishiki sake rice, we bottled just-pressed the best part of the press Nakagumi. This undiluted, unpasteurized Junmai Daiginjo is very fragrant and pure, has a fruity aroma, rich in your mouth and sharp after taste.” Yeah, what they said. $60/720 ml bottle

Kameizumi “Eternal Spring” Junmai Ginjo Nama Genshu (Kochi)
With its abundantly fruity, almost perfumed nose of banana, strawberry, caramelized pear, and candied fruit, this sake boldly announces the presence of famed CEL-24 yeast right from the start. The acidity perfectly balances the sweetness and allows one to enjoy the harmony of the flavors and aromas. Its delicate mouthfeel and slightly lower (14%) ABV makes it just right for “session sipping.” $55/720 ml bottle

Dewazakura Dewasansan Junmai Ginjo Nama Genshu (Yamagata)
Greenish gold tint, with aggressive aromatics of grass, straw, sweet pastry, cinnamon, and banana. Light mouthfeel, with a very dry, astringent finish. An overall lively presence, with the sake letting you know it’s there, and it means business.
$50/720 ml bottle

Denshin Aki “Autumn” Junmai Genshu Namazume (Fukui)
Smooth, quiet impact, with an almost water-like texture and weight. Though the character is somewhat elusive when chilled, there is a burst of flavor (caramel, maple syrup) toward the finish, contrasted with a suggestion of bitterness and a touch of tanginess. The sake seems more revealing as it slowly warms. $45/720 ml bottle

Daisekkei Tokubetsu Junmai Namazake (Nagano)
Mild sunflower yellow tint. Soft, but with good weight to the mouthfeel and a comforting viscosity. Traces of citrus (lime?) on the palate and a fuzziness to the meandering mellow finish. $60/720 ml bottle

Chokyu Extra Dry Junmai Ginjo Nama Genshu (Wakayama)
The nose on this is fruity aroma of pear and melon.  Smooth, very dry Summer Nama Genshu with deep umami savory taste. $60/720 ml

Daisekkei Karakuchi Usunigori Tokubetsu Junmai Namazake
In someone's words: "Fruity aroma of banana, muscat, lychee, and lime. A lively, fizzy feel origin of fermentation gives taste clean and crisp finish. Slowly but surely umami savory flavor expands in your mouth. Please open the bottle slowly. This sake contains carbon dioxide." $50/720 ml
