Hello, Nomidachi!

We've got some pretty big news to share, so we'll just jump right in . . .

Meet the Brewers Happy Hour Tasting
Friday, May 12 @ 5:30- 7:30
Save the date!!

It is with great pride and gratitude that we are able to announce our first "Meet the Brewers" format tasting event (at our "new" space!) since COVID wreaked its havoc and put everyone's lives and travel plans on hold.

Please join us on Friday, May 12 to welcome representatives from the Japanese brewers of Kawatsuru, Chiyonosono, and Yamada Shoten "Everlasting Roots."

The casual format of this tasting will be a "Happy Hour" where guests will be welcomed with a complimentary taste and snacks, given the opportunity to purchase a tasting flight featuring the three breweries' sake, and have the chance to interact with brewery representatives, ask them questions, and share immediate personal impressions and feedback of their wares. (Signed bottles of featured sake will also be available for purchase.)

Brief introductions to our guest brewers:

Kawatsuru (Kagawa prefecture)

Yuichiro Kawahito, Toji and President
“Known for its rice-driven style with elegant, rich texture, Kawatsuru pays respect to the crane that symbolizes longevity and good fortune.”

Chiyonosono (Kumamoto)
Yuri Honda, daughter of President
“The future 5th generation president and daughter of the current brewery president, Yuri Honda, is already making a name for herself as an innovator in the sake community and is primed to continue pushing the brewery toward forward-thinking yet approachable sake.”

Yamada Shoten (Gifu)
Kazuhiko Yamada, son of President
“Made in an ultra-handcrafted and traditional style at importer Vine Connections’ smallest brewery (280 koku), the kanji on the label translates to “nothing has changed since the beginning.”

We're excited to bring people together, in person, over premium Japanese sake, and we very much hope you'll be able to join us Friday, May 12!

Notable Seasonal Release Namazake
Arriving today and featured this week!

Seikyo “Omachi”
Tokubetsu Junmai Namazake (Hiroshima)
The arrival of this popular seasonal treat is always worthy of celebration!
Soft & citrusy, with a luxurious, almost viscous mouthfeel. Notes of grapefruit and lemon throughout, creating a wonderful, beguiling contrast between the sharpness of the acidic citrus elements and the silky texture. Traces of minerality and astringency on the edges make it an ideal pairing for oysters on the half-shell. $50/720 ml bottle

Oyama Tomizu
Tokubetsu Junmai Muroka Nama Genshu (Yamagata)
Brand new to Washington!
From the importer: “Fine aroma of juicy citrus fruits, muscat, mango, and lychee, with dried apricot, raisins, and honey. Well balanced volumed acidity and refined sweetness of rice. Complex, round, and smooth.” $70/720 ml bottle

Last Wave of 2023 Spring Seasonal Release Namazake
Arriving tomorrow and featured while supplies last!

We recently received word from one of our distributors that the final "wave" of 2023 spring seasonal release namazake from importer Japan Prestige has arrived in Seattle.

We plan on cycling through them in the next few weeks or so, and if you are interested in ordering anything, you can definitely influence the order in which we bring them in. Pricing and the briefest of tasting notes (we apologize, but many are so new, we haven’t had a chance to taste them yet!) follow below.

Just give us a shout, if you’d like us to set anything aside for you.

Otokoyama
Junmai Shiboritate Nama Genshu (Hokkaido)         Aromas of fresh linen, bamboo leaf, and whole grain banana bread. Clean and direct, with a hint of cream. On the drier side, with some delayed spiciness in the finish. $55/720 ml bottle

Wakatake Oniotome “Yume”
Tokubetsu Junmai Namazake (Shizuoka)
New to Washington! From the importer: “Brewed with Shizuoka grown rice and Shizuoka yeast. Gentle, soft aroma of melon and lychee. Very smooth mouthfeel and soft umami with moderate acidity. Well balanced with sharp finish.” $48/720 ml bottle

Koshi no Homare Kura Homare
Junmai Daiginjo Muroka Nama Genshu (Niigata)
Super limited (last year we only managed to snag 12 bottles). From the importer: “Fruity aroma of apple and melon expands in your mouth. Complex, elegant fruity taste with crisp and bracing impression.” Quite possibly one of our favorite seasonal namazake
EVER. $75/720 ml bottle.

Dewanoyuki “Muku no Sake”
Junmai Ginjo Muroka Nama Genshu (Yamagata)
Brand new to Washington! According to the importer (and we quote): “Made by a special method of hatsushibori, unpasteurized, unfiltered, and not completely squeezing out with pure tastes. Rich and fruity aroma like melon and muscat is harmonized with a light acidity raspberry. The long finish is superb refined umami of rice and silky texture.” $55/720 ml bottle.

Gokyo “Muku no Sake”
Junmai Ginjo Muroka Nama Genshu (Yamaguchi)
Brand new to Washington! From the importer: “Made by a special method of hatsushibori, unpasteurized, unfiltered, and not completely squeezing out with pure tastes.” ‘Sorry there’s not much else to go on, but if you’ve had Gokyo sake before, you know. $65/720 ml bottle.

Daisekkei “Muku no Sake”
Junmai Ginjo Muroka Nama Genshu (Nagano)
Brand new to Washington! From the importer: “Made by a special method of hatsushibori, unpasteurized, unfiltered, and not completely squeezing out with pure tastes.
