Hello There, Nomidachi!
While this is meant to be a brief reminder about the 15th Anniversary Open House this Saturday, June 25, let us start by saying a big THANK YOU to everyone who came out to meet Hadar Iron and appreciate her InFerment ceramics last weekend. It was a wonderfully warm and well-attended reception, and it felt like the perfect way to kick off our sake-centric collaboration.
Continuing with our anniversary related celebrations, we are presenting a special sake menu this week, with the following "Nomidachi Appreciation" discounts: *All glass pours $15 or greater are discounted 15%. This week, the selections include luxurious libations from Wataribune, Kaiun, and Nanbu Bijin, just to mention a few . . . *The "case " discount on retail purchases of 6 or more bottles is bumped up to 15% off (normally 10%) Details about our "official" anniversary open house on Saturday follow below. If you have a chance to stop by the shop this week, we'd love to see you, raise a glass or two, and reminisce (with an eye on future fun, of course). Kanpai and Thank You Very Much! We hope to see you down here on 6/25! *(PLEASE NOTE: We will be closed from 6 pm on Saturday to host a previously scheduled private event.) Greetings & Salutations, Nomidachi! As we mentioned in previous communications, this month we are very pleased to officially celebrate the occasion of Saké Nomi's 15th Anniversary -- this year, in our "new" location at 106 Cherry Street.
Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, we haven't been able to host public gatherings and activities in the last couple years to acknowledge our 13th and 14th anniversaries. It is our hope that the public health situation will continue to improve so that we can use this year's festivities to kick off a year full of sake-related activities and events (tasting seminars/classes, "Meet the Brewer" visits with guests from Japan, new sake release tastings, etc.). Details about some of the first events and some new and interesting sake are mentioned below. Please remember, too, that we'd love to help host your private parties and events in our relatively spacious spot, so if you have a special reason to gather with friends over some premium sake, just get in touch and we'll be glad to put something together for you. Thank you for sticking with us these past 15 years. Here's to much more love, laughter, and sake in the years ahead! Kanpai and Thank You Very Much! Johnnie & Taiko Sake Ceramics Open House with inFerment Saturday, June 18 3:00-6:00 pm When we made the move to the new space, we definitely felt like it was the beginning of a new era for our premium sake shop and tasting bar adventure. Though we've already been in operation here for a little over a year, it still kind of feels like we're settling in. Yes, we have some nostalgia about the "old" place on S. Washington Street, but we feel that the move will ultimately be a motivation to try some new things (Sorry, no plans for sushi!). One project we're super excited about is we have found a collaborator for the introduction of some locally crafted sake ceramics in Hadar Iron and her Seattle-based studio, InFerment. Please join us on Saturday, June 18 from 3:00 pm, as we co-host an open house with InFerment featuring sake cups and sets, as well as some additional tableware that definitely enhance the sake drinking experience. With any purchase of Hadar's lovely sake cups, we'll even help you break it in by serving your first pour of sake in it at the bar! We have begun stocking some of the sake cups and sets at the shop, and the feedback has been fantastic. We're looking forward to the variety of items Hadar will be featuring at this event. (With Hadar Iron. "Was it something I said?") Saké Nomi 15th Anniversary Open House Saturday, June 25 2:00-6:00 pm You can't believe what an achievement it feels like to finally mark the completion of our 15th year in business and kick off Year 16! We hope you'll be able to stop by and celebrate with us on the afternoon of Saturday, June 25 at 2:00-6:00 pm. We'll be featuring lots of 15-themed customer appreciation discounts, as well as some celebratory cedar barrel aged taruzake from Choryo Shuzo in Nara. Our friends at Choryo have also been gracious enough to kick in a limited number of souvenir giveaways including maekake aprons, t-shirts, and lacquer masu square sake cups. We hope to see you down here on 6/25! New and Limited Sake Selections Kubota Senju Junmai Ginjo (Niigata) Brand new to the US! A modern take on the classic Senju Tokubetsu Honjozo and Ginjo versions, the importer mentions that “gentle and enticing aromas of sweet pea (?), melon and essence of vanilla yogurt lead into soft, silky sips and a short but delectable semi-dry finish.” $40/720 ml bottle; $12/4 oz. glass Koshi no Homare Shiboritate Junmai Nama Genshu (Niigata) Limited seasonal release! Elements of rice and yeast in the nose. Entry is quiet and soft, but then the brashness and boldness of the genshu (undiluted saké) makes its presence known. A coating, dairy-like, “feel the heat” spread to the finish. Direct and unostentatious; it’s all about the character of the local rice. $40/720 ml bottle; $12/4 oz. glass Suigei “Harmony” Junmai Daiginjo (Kochi) Brand new to Washington! According to the importer, this sake is a blend of 3 different junmai daiginjo (“magnificent and fragrant, “flavorful and rich rice umami,” and “crisp”). $45/720 ml bottle; $14/4 oz. glass Kurosawa Draft Junmai (Nagano) First time in Seattle! An unpasteurized “draft” version of Kurosawa’s popular Junmai Kimoto. Produced just once a year, the lack of pasteurization helps the sake retain acidity and a “vibrant and refreshing sweetness. $45/720 ml bottle; $14/4 oz. glass Mantensei “Star-Filled Sky” Junmai Ginjo (Tottori) Dark, rich gold coloring, with notes of wet leaves, roasted nuts, earthiness, and fermentation funkiness in the nose. Hearty, smokey, rustic, umami meatiness, and dark chocolate flavor. Enjoyable and mellow when warmed. Aged 3 years. $50/720 ml bottle; $16/4 oz. glass |
